UEVR Project Dhanbad

Goal: Sustainable Reduction in Earthquake Risk in the earthquake-prone urban areas in Dhanbad.

Objective 1: Create awareness among government functionaries, technical institutions, NGOs, CBOs and communities about earthquake vulnerability and possible preventive actions.

Objective 2: Development and Institutionalizing of Earthquake Preparedness and Response Plans and practice these through mock drills .

Objective 3: Development of regulatory framework (techno-legal regime) to promote safe construction and systems to ensure compliance .

Objective 4: Capacity building at all levels.

Objective 5: Networking knowledge on best practices and tools for effective earthquake risk management, including creation of information systems containing inventory of resources for emergency operations.

Highlights of achievements under the project  

Techno- Legal Regime  

Expert Committee for Building Byelaws/GDCR constituted in the city .   Building Byelaws amended to include provision as per the BIS Codes/ Model Building Byelaws circulated by MHA .   Draft Building Byelaws/GDCR prepared.

Training and Capacity Building  

Masons trained in hazard resistant building technology seen along with a technology demonstration unit

43 Engineers and Architects trained in the subject of Earthquake Engineering. 43 Engineers/Architects/ Professionals trained in RVS(Rapid Visual Screening) of buildings. 40 Masons trained in multi hazard resistant building technology and Safer construction practices.
